It’s been awhile since we have sent out an update on William’s status. Lots of people have been asking how he is doing and what specific prayers we need.

William has been doing very well, and is growing like a weed! At 6 months he is in the 90th percentile for height and 50-75th for weight. We never imagined he would be growing so well. Such a blessing and answer to prayer!

He no longer takes a bottle and gets all of his food through the NG feeding tube. Although, recently he has started to eat a tiny amount of baby food by mouth. We will continue to work with him to take more and more. He will start therapy at The Bell Center, which is an early intervention program, in September. We are excited and hopeful that he will learn to eat.

William is getting bigger, busier, and he is constantly pulling at the NG tube on his face. He also wants to sleep on his stomach. All of his rolling around and rubbing his face on the bed causes his NG tube to become dislodged during the night. It is a full-time job keeping it taped to his face, and putting it back down when it does come out. Because of this, and the fact that he does not take any of his bottles by mouth, we have decided to move forward with the gastrostomy tube. His surgery is scheduled for August 22nd at Children’s of Alabama. The expectation is for the surgery to be laparoscopic and to spend about 3 days in the hospital.

William’s kidney function was checked earlier this week and was the best report we have gotten thus far! His electrolytes and kidney function remain stable. And a huge praise is that his blood pressure was down to a normal level for a baby his age. We were very excited as we have been trying to find a way to keep it under control. High blood pressure is what kept him in the hospital so long in April.

The last few nights we have been trying to work on William sleeping through the night. Up to this point we have been feeding him every 3 or 4 hours around the clock. Our goal is skip his middle of the night feed and for all 3 of us to sleep soundly :) It is still a work in progress.

William is growing into the happiest boy in the world and we are just blown away at his progress. He brings so much joy to us and everyone around him. I can’t tell you how many people stop to talk to him because he’s always smiling so big. We are so honored to parent this little boy and couldn’t ask for anything better.

Prayer requests:
-He continues to grow so well
-His therapy at The Bell Center
-His upcoming surgery. That all would go as planned and there would not be any complications.
-That his kidney function, electrolytes, and blood pressure would all remain stable.
-That he will consistently sleep through the night
-Rest and strength for us all
